Hair Care Myths

For those with extremely oily hair who shampoo twice a day, cut back to once. Wash your hair less often; if you shampoo daily, try every other day. It takes two to three weeks for your scalp to adjust the amount of oil it produces. If your hair feels uncomfortably oily in the meantime, wear a ponytail or a thick headband―and think about what you’ll do with all that extra time in the morning.

Use just two shampoos! You might have heard that hair can become “bored” with a shampoo and conditioner if you’ve used them for too long. And it’s true that hair can seem lifeless after a month or more of the same routine. A buildup of conditioners may be the culprit, says salon owner Johnny Lavoy, but “the good news is that you don’t need to fill your bathroom with four bottles of shampoo to rotate every week. Using a clarifying shampoo twice a month or so should correct the problem.”

If your hair is looking more like a wire fox terrier’s than a champion golden retriever’s, you should consider your eating habits. Biotin, a B vitamin found in many whole grains, liver, rice, milk, and egg yolks, “is a key vitamin to make your hair stronger,” says dermatologist Marianne O’Donoghue. Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins E and A can also have an impact on the overall health of the scalp. They can be found in fish, vegetables―oh, and kibble.

Hair Damage

What caused your hair to look thin? Discoloured or aged? Factors such as styling appliances and vigorous brushing, as well as sun damage, colouring and hormonal imbalances will all contribute to ageing your hair. We've found the best way to manage bad hair so you'll only end up with healthy, luscious hair every day.

Styling tools

Problem: Too much blow-drying or straightening can leave hair dry, thin and brittle. Unprotected heat styling draws out moisture from the hair cells making it age
a lot quicker than normal.

Solution: Always apply a thermal styling aid before using any heat appliances, and never use an iron or curling tongs on wet hair. To give your hair a break, let it dry naturally from time to time.

Colouring and highlights

Problem: Colouring, highlighting and bleaching hair too much can dry it out and cause breakage. Stick to the same hair colourist and never put colour over colour.

Solution: To stop hair from discolouring, use a maintaining shampoo and conditioner to keep your natural colour vibrant and to help artificial colour from fading. For best results, apply a protecting treatment once a week.

Hormones

Problem: Hormones not only affect our skin but they affect our hair as well. Whether you're going through puberty, a menstrual cycle, on a contraceptive pill or have started menopause - locks will become oily as your hormones produce excess sebum.

Solution: There is really nothing you can do that will stop your hormones from ageing your hair, but by colouring hair, you can dry it out so that it's not always looking oily and limp.

Pollution

Problem: The fumes of environmental pollution and smoke can leave your hair dull and smelly.

Solution: Like your hormones, there's very little you can do to prevent pollution from damaging your hair. You can wash it daily with a detoxifying shampoo and conditioner, which is especially good if you're a smoker. Also apply a treatment that's packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

Stress

Problem: Stress ages your locks, causing it to grey and, in extreme cases, fall out.

Solution: To reduce stress from affecting your hair, gently massage conditioner into your scalp and apply a scalp mask once a week to increase the blood circulation, which will help to reduce hair loss.

Poor diet

Problem: If you're not eating a healthy balanced diet, high in protein or iron-rich foods, your hair will eventually become thin, which can cause premature hair loss.

Solution: Eat a well-balanced diet, and if your iron levels are low, take a good multivitamin supplement. Also, use thickening shampoos and conditioners every day, which should help to combat thinning. Use styling products that add more volume to your hair.

Sun and swimming

Problem: Salt water and chlorine will dry your hair out, causing it to break, and it can also discolour hair, especially if it's bleached.

Solution: When out in the sun, slather on a sun-protecting mask to your hair that locks in the moisture. Wear a sun hat at all times and invest in a swimming cap for diving in to the ocean.

Split ends

Problem: Most people think that having long hair means you never have to cut it. But regular trims will help to prevent your hair from splitting at the ends.

Solution: Visit your hairdresser every six to eight weeks to cut off dead ends that may be splitting. While you're at the hairdresser's, ask for a heavy-duty salon treatment to revitalise your locks.

Pregnancy

Problem: While most women find their hair is thick and healthy during pregnancy, the opposite can happen after giving birth, especially while breastfeeding. Many of the nutrients go to the baby leaving mum with weak hair.

Solution: Make sure you continue to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet high in protein, and check with your doctor if you can take any multivitamin supplements while you're breastfeeding.

Bohemian Hair Styles

Talking about Bohemian hair styles, I think of earthy and natural looking hair. Long hair parted in the middle and hanging in loose subtle curls is a throwback to the 1970’s hippie scene. Back then, young women wore long flowing hair with leather headbands, faded jeans and chunky jewelry, very much like some of our styles today. With or without bangs, Bohemian hair enhances your natural beauty and brings out a feminine glow. Loose face-framing curls can give you a soft, romantic look.

Thick straight bangs are one option, while some prefer long, side-swept, almost wispy bangs. No matter what texture your hair is, wearing it in its natural state is perfectly Bohemian.

Brooke White and Carly Simon wore Bohemian Hair Styles

You can create this wild child hair, by scrunching even or layered hair sprayed with a curl activator such as TIGI’s, Curls Rock or a mousse like Paul Mitchell’s Sculpting Foam with conditioner. Scrunching will give your hair more texture and volume, let your hair air dry and finger comb through. Your bohemian hair style is uniquely yours to wear and as a hair stylist, I think our individual differences are what make each of us beautiful.

Bohemian hair styles are low maintenance and look ultra-feminine, so keep make-up fresh and light to go with your hairstyle.

Minka Kelly in half up do with braids

One quick and easy Bohemian hair style is long natural hair with two loose braids on either side of a center part, then connecting in the back. Easy to do and looks sooo cute!

Sienna Miller in a Bohemian halo updo hair style

Want a Bohemian Updo hair style? You can create a braided halo; start with a center part and a long braid. Wrap the braid around your head and pin it down as you wrap, secure the end of the braid under the beginning of it.

Side braids connecting in back

Another Bohemian updo hair style starts with two French braids on the sides, which are braided to the neckline where the ends are secured with elastic. Separating the ends into smaller sections, twist each section into a coil then pin it down, leaving the ends free. It’s an artsy, Bohemian updo that turns out differently every time you create it.

Your Bohemian hair style may be as simple as pulling your hair off your face and letting long waves spill over your shoulders. Whichever, you choose remember that Bohemian hair is clean, shiny and natural!

Crimped Ponytail

Spritz dry hair with a styling spray. Using a crimp-iron, iron hair from the crown to ends. You only need to iron the top of hair, do not crimp all of your hair. Brush crimps out into a ponytail. Run a gloss (we like Bumble and Bumble Gloss, see sleek ponytail above) through ponytail, using extra at the ends.

Micro braid hairstyles

African American women are very common with Micro braid hairstyles. When people are on vacation in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, and many other touristy and tropical areas, they wear micro braids too. For any age micro braids can be a fun hair style, but people usually get a few, and they are only worn for a short period of time. Please keep in mind, the brittle hair is not the best type of hair to be braided. The hair can damaged to hair, and for a period of time it may cause brittle hair to break. When you remove the braids, your hair could be damaged beyond repair.

Beautiful Black Micro Braid Hairstyles

There has been micro braid hairstyle for a long time now. Some people think it is a particularly comfortable option. It helps you keep cool during summers if you have long hair. If you maintain it properly, it lasts for days together.

Micro Braids Hairstyle with Human Hair

Micro Braid Hairstyles have been popular amongst the guys since the likes of rapper stars like Coolie and Snoop Dog came around that. The trend has kept going in their favor.

You need to take care of micro braids before, after, and during the braiding process to ensure the best result. The reason is that the very small nature of the braids hair can easily be damage and even fall out. Maintenance of micro braids hairstyles includes routine conditioning and shampooing. The black braid hair style is worn for about three months. You need to follow a healthy diet and keep the scalp clean and well conditioned.

Tips for Braids Hair

Treat your scalp to an invigorating fingertip massage and sponge the braids themselves.

You’ll find that a silk or satin scarf wrapped around your head at night keeps your braids neat; avoid using cotton as it tends to draw out your braids’ natural oils.

Some braided styles should not really be washed (such as corkscrew braids), get the green light from your hair braiding stylist before proceeding. Know when to end a good thing.

You may be tempted to keep those glamorous braids in forever, but remember that it’s unhealthy to keep your braided hairstyle for more than two months.

When braids or weaves are removed, allow afro hair to rest first before relaxing the hair. Essential - trimming between braiding.

Boho Braids Hairstyles

This summer, one of the hottest trends will be the very cute, very elegant and easy to do, boho braids. A boho braid is a side swept single braid that gives your coif a little edge. Boho braids work on anyone with medium to long hair. It doesn’t work that well on short hair because the braid needs to be swept across to one side and go behind the ear.

A boho braid can be included in any messy updos, including natural, soft waves, or just a messy bun. To get the messy updo with the boho braid, start by spritzing your hair with a shine enhancer after you’ve washed it.

Get a dime-sized amount of gel or mousse and scrunch your hair with your hands. Flip your hair over for even more volume, and blow dry.

Take a 2-4 inch piece of hair right at the front (see picture) and braid it across to the other side. Make sure you braid it all the way to the end. Pin the braid behind the ear, and you’re all set. Boho braids are great for the summer because they keep the hair out of your face, as well as giving you a chic and elegant do that you can wear anytime during the day.

Braids Hairstyles

Cornrows Hairstyles

What is Braiding?

Braids are popular with today’s diverse community, ideal for summer or holidays, keeping the natural hair in place. Braiding is a popular method used especially amongst afro-Caribbean clients. Braids hold your natural hair in place and protect it from daily exposure.

Suitability

The technique used can be time consuming, but a full head can be achieved within four hours depending on length and thickness. Braids can last up to two to three months depending on hair textures; extension fibre can be added creating a variety of styles and colours. Such styles include cornrows, micro braids and twist braids.

The Process

The amount of time taken will depend on your chosen style, and whether you require a full or half head of braids, some clients will mix different braid techniques to create their desired look. Front cornrow back single braids. The micro braids could last up to four months, this braid technique takes around five hours.

For Afro hair types, after braiding you may apply you normal after care products, or recommended braid sheen.

Long Braids Hairstyles

Wavy Hairstyles

Wavy hairstyles are all the rage this year! They’re easy to make, and have a very natural look about them. Waves work on anyone who has medium shoulder-length hair to long hair. Waves not only look great on everyone, but add volume and texture to your hair. Follow these tips on how to get the perfect wavy beach hair.

Start off by washing your hair with a volumizing shampoo. Next, apply conditioner to the ends of the hair only– conditioner on your roots will flatten your hair, so keep that in mind.Leave the conditioner on your ends for about 5 minutes, and rinse with warm water. Make sure the water isn’t too hot as it can make your hair very frizzy.

Towel dry your hair and apply a volumizing mousse all throughout your hair. Comb the mousse through your hair so that every strand is coated. Start blowdrying your hair using a nozzle or an infuser. This will give you extra bounce and volume. Blowdry hair upside down, scrunching your hair as you go along.

For extra waves, curl a 2 inch section of your hair around your finger while blowdrying and hold for a few seconds. Repeat all over. For a little hold, spray an aerosol hairspray and add a shine enhancer for extra shine.

Full-Bodied Hairstyles

The secret to getting full-bodied hair is in the color. Adding lowlights (the reverse of highlights) creates the illusion of volume and depth.

Pinned up the hair around the crown, and colored the layer underneath two shades darker than the rest of the hair. It’s a subtle boost that will last for months, and you won’t regret it!

But if you don’t want to add more color to your hair (maybe because your hair is already damaged) then I suggest just sticking to your mousse and blow drier. Add lots of volume by running a volumizing mousse through damp hair and blow drying upside down. If you need to straighten your hair, do just the ends as the iron can flatten your hair if you run it all throughout.

Hair Pouf Up

Every woman needs a little volume in her hair. Weather you add some hairspray, a little gel or mousse, you always need to get
that extra volume.

Why, you ask? Limp hair doesn’t look good on anyone. It hangs around the face, throwing everything off balance.

A little volume does good to your facial features, not to mention you’ll have fab hair.

A great volumising tip is a pretty pouf. To get this look, tease the top quarter of your hair with a stiff toothbrush (make sure it’s unused!). The bristles on the toothbrush are perfect for teasing your hair.

Sweep that section back, tuck the ends under and secure it at the base with crisscrossing bobby pins. And voila, you’re all set to go out and look fabulous!

Luscious Hairstyles

This season, think fun, flirty hair that will grab the attention of anyone and everyone. So head out to your salon, and give your stylist some of these tips!

Long Layered Hair

Long layers scream fun and flirty, so ask your stylist to snip off some locks, especially around the face. Long layers will give your hair more texture and also make it look fuller.

Side-Part Hair

A side part is excellent for anyone with a long face or medium-length hair. Make a part either on the left or the right side and curl the ends a bit for a glamorous look.

Piecey Ends Hair

Curling your entire hair will make you look like Shirley Temple, but if you just curl the ends, there’s nothing more perfect. Get that sexy, piecey look by wrapping the ends of your hair around a curling iron and rubbing a styling cream through.

Tease Your Roots

There is nothing sexier than a little volume. So next time you throw your hair up in a ponytail, backcomb the crown of your head and smooth it out with a little bit of hairspray. You’ll be surprised at what a difference it’ll make.

Loose Waves Hair

Get touchable, loose waves by rubbing a serum into dry hair. Start curling random sections of your hair for that “slightly undone” look.

Instantly Sexy Hair

You can use your hair as the true weapon wherever you are; forget clothes and accessories, your hair holds more seduction power than anything else. Here’s how to make the best of your mane:

Dare to go Off Center

A hair part right down the middle can be bland and unflattering. A low side part looks great on all face shapes, so don’t be afraid to try it. Take a rattail comb to draw a line from the hairline at the outer corner of one eyebrow diagonally back to to the center of the crown. This will give your hair a very sultry look in the front and everything will stay balanced and in place.

Condition, Condition, Condition

Conditioning is the most important step in having healthy hair. Before shampooing, slather on a deep conditioning treatment to your hair and leave it on for 10 minutes. Rinse, shampoo, and finish off with your regular conditioner. This will make your hair super soft and manageable. Do this once or twice a week to keep up the shine and softness.

Sexy, Just-Woke-Up Hair

Sexy, just woke-up-hair can be achieved so easily. Just flip your hair upside down and give it a good shake. Flip it back over and scrunch your hair at the crown. Finish off with finger-combing your ends and lightly applying a shine cream to your strands.

Go Brunette

Brunettes - it’s your year! A rich cocoa hue has a dramatic quality that you can’t get from any other light shade. If you’re a natural blonde though, I don’t necessarily suggest switching so dramatically, but do go up one shade at a time. Try L’Oreal Paris Feria in Sparkling Amber.

Fake a Wind Machine

Standing in front of a wind machine or a fan, will bring your hair out in all of its glory, but unfortunately, we can’t walk around with someone holding a fan in front of us. So instead, do the next best thing: layers. If you have medium to thick hair, ask your stylist for choppy layers all the way around your head. If you have thin hair, just ask for a few chin-grazing pieces at the front.

Sweet Hair

Next time you spritz yourself with your favorite perfume, think about applying it to the nape of your neck and also a little bit into your hair. So next time you flip your hair around, you’ll be giving everyone a tiny dose of your sweet fragrance.

Chopsticks

There is nothing sexier than a low chignon topped off with the secretary/oriental touch. Next time you reach for your scrunchie, put it away and stick a pencil or a chopstick in your bun.

Long Curly Hairstyles

She has curly hair in a loose, glamorous style with a fringe, or bangs. Her hair color is very dark brown with purple lighting.

How to Get Beautiful Hair

Most of us tend to have bad hair days here and there, but there are tons of ways to fix that and what’s even more, you can fix almost any hair problem in the comfort of your own home. So here are your top 10 ways to avoid bad hair and get beautiful, shiny hair.

1. A Little Baking Soda Goes a Long Way

Baking soda has been proven again and again to do magic tricks. This time, use it with your shampoo. Sprinkle a quarter-sized amount of baking soda into your palm and mix it with your shampoo. Lather and rinse. The baking soda helps to remove builtup residue from styling products and will also make your hair super soft and shiny.

2. Scratch the Surface

We don’t always have time in the am to go for a full wash, blowdry and style. One trick you can do is just wash your bangs and put the rest of your hair in a messy bun or a ponytail. This way, your bangs will look nice and clean at least and the rest is history.

3. Throw in a Bun and a Headband

For those blah hair days where your hair just can’t seem to want to stay put, throw it all in a bun and add a chic skinny headband. Your hair will look stylish even though it’s a big mess.

4. Volumize

This is a really quick and simply volumizing trick. Turn your head upside down and spray a volumizing hairspray onto the roots of your hair. Add more volume by slowly crunching your mane and flip it back over. It’ll give you tons of volume, just make sure you tame the surface.

5. Goodbye Greasy Roots

This is a simple trick you can use anywhere, and it’s almost always guaranteed to work. Just sprinkle some baby powder into your palms and work it through your roots. The powder will absorb the oil, leaving your hair super soft and silky.

6. Revamp Your Hair

You know your hair never looks as good as it did the first day you washed it. So here’s something that might help you get your hair back to its day of glory. Let’s say you washed your hair yesterday, but it’s not looking so glamorous today. When you take a shower (today), put on a shower cap. The heat from the shower will make your hair softer and more manageable.

7. Bumpits

Bumpits are little inserts you put in your hair to add volume and depth to flat, limp hair. Just put them in and see your hair transform!

8. Ballerina Bun

For those messy hair days, put your hair up in a pretty ballerina bun, let those fringes go and add a pair of dangling earrings and some lip gloss. This will draw the attention away from your hair and onto your face.

9. Shine Treatment

A shine treatment will work for even the dryest hair out there. Just coat hair with a shine treatment, cover in plastic, leave it on for a half hour and rinse out.

10. Make a Huge Difference

Make a huge difference in your hairstyle simply by moving your part. So if your hair is parted at the middle, try a side part: you won’t believe the difference until you try it!

Short and Wavy Hair Cuts

She has short and wavy hair in a tousled bob style with a fringe, or bangs. Her hair color is blonde with brown sections.

Fixing a hair color mistake

Never try to fix or adjust hair color by yourself—this is the time for a professional colorist!

The earlier you get the professional colorist involved, the better chance we will get you back to normal, with little cost or hassle. The more you attempt on your own, the less likely that our team of colorist can help, and if a Salon Blast hair colorist can do it, it will be less damaging, with great looking results.

Hair bleaching

Hair bleaching had a big resurgence in popularity after Marilyn Monroe became a cultural icon. Usually this is a two-step process. First the hair is bleached and then a hair color toner is applied. This results in softer hair texture.

COOL Colors Hair

Naturally, cool people should avoid gold, yellow, red and bronze tones, which have a tendency to make you look sallow and drawn. The best hair color shades, depending on your skin tone, are shiny raven-wing blacks, cool ash browns, and cool blondes in shades ranging from mink to platinum and icy white. You're fortunate to be able to wear many exciting "unnatural" colors . . . lipstick reds, burgundies, and orchids, for a more daring look.

How to Make Your Hair Looks Perfect

When you were on your first date, you would want to make sure that you looked perfect. This would include wearing clothes that were smart and elegant, making sure that your skin was clean and that you looked fresh and healthy and also you would make sure that your hair was also very clean and looked attractive.

But could imagine if you arrived for your first date, you saw a quick reflection of your hair and it was an absolute mess! Straight away you would run to the bathroom to make any necessary adjustments in order to make sure that your looked presentable and attractive.

Hair care is a booming business and a lot of people do take care in the appearance of their hair and are prepared to spend a great deal of money for it to look its very best all the time.
A good hair care routine does need to be in place as the hair is exposed to many elements of the weather and also pollution, so it does attract a lot of grime and dirt.

There are some habits however that can also have its toll on a persons hair, such as smoking and excessive drinking. Smoking first of all is going to make your hair smell and drinking too much alcohol will cause your skin and hair to become dehydrated. The same also applies to the range of styling products that are available and these try are generally chemical based, and cause the hair to become damaged and also the scalp.

It is important to take care of the hair as it is the face and body. The hair and also the skin does need to be nourished as often as possible, in order to prevent the hair from becoming weak, brittle and even from falling out.

When it comes to buying beauty care products a shampoo you need to be using a product that is going to be effective in helping the hair to get rid of the grime and dirt that it has collected.

Any shampoo is not just there to keep it clean but to keep it moisturized also, as you do not hair that is dry, as this would be difficult to manage.

Also make sure that you are buying a hair care shampoo that is specific to your hair type, such as a shampoo for dandruff, oily hair or damaged hair.

The ingredients within these products are designed to help restore the hair to its natural pH level, so make sure that you are using products for your specific hair type.

If you want to further moisturize your hair and scalp then you should use a deep cleansing conditioner. Before you condition your hair make sure that it is already clean and massage this deep into the roots of the roots and also massage the scalp. Leave the conditioner on for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water.

Treat your hair with respect and this means to not be excessive with the styling products that are available, or the heat treatments that can be used to either curl or straighten your hair. Excessive heat is another reason why hair can become damaged and also brittle.

Obviously We're Talking About Hair

So I am a hard core shine addict. Seriously. My hair is straight as a pin and fine as hell, so i can't curl it, volumize it, coiff it or anything else. My one weapon? Play up the straight and the shiny. Without, of course, crossing the border into the nastiness of oily hair (which, fine hair sufferers will know, shows muuuch faster than you thick haired beauties).

I have tried more products that I will admit (unless under subpeona--unlikely, but hey, hair care was an integral part of Legally Blonde). I have tried shine serums, gloss boosters, blow dry protection, leave in conditioner, volumizing mousse, gel, and root spray, and more leave in treatments in brightly colored bottles than should be humanly or financially possible.

So here is my regimen for shiny, glossy, super soft, ultra touchable, gotta toss it over your shoulder summer hair.

Black Hair Treatments

If you naturally have thin hair density then it is advisable for you not to use any styling hair products as it may lead to hair fall.

The density is the quantity of banks on your head. It can be thick,
average or thin. The average density of the black hair can vary some
share between 50,0000 to 110.000 banks.

Caring for thick density black hair may cause little trouble, as the density of the hair is thick. While washing, consider parting your hair into sections so that it becomes easy to wash your hair. One should use products to soften the hair or to make it smooth.

Medium density hair type of black hair is more suitable for styling.

A part inclines on taking care of care of black hair:

• Styling and regularly using different products will damage the hair.
• Regularly condition it and moisturise it to increase the softness of the black hair.
• Try not to use blow dryers as it heats up the hair causes damage to them.
• One should regularly use heat oils for black hair care.
• If one suffers with frequent broken ends then he should use protein rich conditioners to increase the strength of the hair.
• Avoid over stretching of the hair.
• Hair should be only combed when they are wet.
• While washing your hair rub them only in one direction
• Oil your scalp regularly before washing it with the shampoo.
• Massage you hair with the oil properly
• One should not rub the hair dry with the towel.
• Use separate shampoo and a separate conditioner for your black hair care.

Hair Oiling

It’s time to hit the bottle; the bottle of oil that is. As you count your falling locks, turn towards your grandmother armed with her trusty hair oil that solves all hair problems — from dandruff to thinning and hair that refuses to stay on your head. Know more about this age old magic cure from Dr. Rashmi Shetty, Parachute Advanced Hair Expert.

Why is oil good for the hair?

Oiling is very critical for the hair. It provides nourishment and strengthens them from the roots. Coconut hair oil is especially important. It is about 90 per cent saturated fat and is rich in a medium chain triglyceride called lauric acid. A natural conditioner that works on hair, it protects, covers and restores sheen by penetrating into the cortex (the inner most part of your hair). Use at least once a week to protect hair against all artificial treatments, colouring, perming and straightening.

What are the best ways to do it?

The best way is to oil your hair and leave it overnight. This allows the oil to seep in through the pores into the scalp and thus enhances hair health. Massaging increases blood circulation. Make sure you oil your hair for 20 minutes before you go in for a head bath. Do it before a swim, stepping out in the sun or treating hair with artificial chemicals. Coconut hair oil works as a protective shield.

What are the advantages of coconut over other oils?

Coconut hair oil penetrates into the cortex (the central part of the hair) three times more than most other oils. It prevents chemicals in shampoo from destroying the proteins present in the hair. It acts as a protective sheet against pollutants like ultraviolet rays, bleaches, and other harmful chemicals that make hair limp and lifeless.

I have oily hair. Can I still oil my hair?

Yes. In most situations, people mistake an oily scalp (thanks to natural oils present on the scalp) for oily hair. It is important to oil the hair not just on the scalp but also the tips as the tips are the driest and subject to damage. Use light hair oils that are less sticky.

What kind of a shampoo should I use to wash the oil off?

Make sure that you do not use excessive amount of shampoo to rinse off the oil. Finish off with one rinse. If the oil is not completely rinsed off, go in for another round of shampooing. It is also important to wet your hair completely so that you require less shampoo to rinse the oil off.

Hair Problems: Dandruff

What is Dandruff?
It is a condition affecting areas of the skin rich in sebaceous (oil glands). Dandruff is actually a build-up of dead skin cells or dirt on the scalp that has not been sloughed off and over time, starts accumulating into layers. Spas Tricks to do Hair and Scalp Treatments at Home

Dandruff Treatments

Dandruff is usually caused by a fungus and requires special treatments to really deal with the problem. Many spas use tea tree oil in their scalp treatments because it is a well known anti fungal. A little tea tree oil will quickly ease the flaking that accompanies dandruff and soothe the constant itchy feeling that can be more than annoying for sufferers. Place a few drops of tea tree oil on your fingers and massage into the scalp for a few minutes. Make sure you make contact with your scalp rather than covering your hair in tea tree oil. Rinse the scalp with warm water. You can also use products like Tea Tree Hair and Scalp Treatment instead of a tea tree massage.

Controling Frizzy Hair

Frizzy hair is generally caused by a lack of moisture and that can easily be remedied by the use of moisturizing products. There are several different moisture rich treatments that spas use in order to get your hair back in shape but almost always the treatment is followed by applying steam and a thorough rinse. Try finding a shampoo to use that has coconut, jojoba, or grape seed oil as an ingredient. If you want to replicate your spa experience you can also directly apply any of the mentioned oils directly to your scalp and massage into your head and hair. In order to remove the oil from your hair rinse with water and shampoo.

Chemical Hair Treatments' Dangers

Every women (and even men) love to go for hair treatments regularly to keep their hair beautiful and refreshing. Whether it's for a new hair perm, or a change to the newest and trendiest hair color, or maybe just for straightening the curly hair, hair business is big business.

Regular treatments are not a cause for hair loss and do not contribute to hair thinning but when you or your hair stylist applies certain chemicals in some of these treatments, it can be shockingly dangerous for your hair and health as well.

Hair Problems: Very -Dry Hair

May result from hereditary or hormonal problems-or due to a result of damage caused by over-use of heated rollers, hot hair dryers, perms and bleaches.

You can protect your hair :
1. By using very mild shampoos and good quality conditioners.
2. By having them trimmed regularly.

3. By going in for once-weekly hot oil treatment. Use warm olive or almond oil and massage it carefully into the scalp and hair.
4. Leave the oil on overnight, if possible, by covering the hair with a plastic bath cap and a toweling turban. Wash the oil off the next day by applying diluted shampoo directly to the scalp before applying water.
5. Mayonnaise Conditioner. To recondition the hair, shampoo hair with homemade shampoo or a shampoo from the natural foods store. Rinse and towel dry. Apply regular mayonnaise (not salad dressing) to the hair. Massage in. Let sit for 10-15 minutes, shampoo again lightly and rinse with an apple cider vinegar and water solution.

Hair Problems: Very-Greasy Hair

Mainly due to hormonal problem, the sebaceous glands tend to become overactive and produce too much sebum.

Tips on managing Greasy hair :
1. Avoid too much brushing of hair because it might further stimulate the oil glands that are already over-active.

2. Wash your hair every third or fourth day or even more frequently, depending on individual comfort. A good nourishing liquid shampoo is often the best answer.
3. Excessive oiliness if neglected can lead to falling hair. If treated in time it can be prevented.
4. Wear your hair in easy-to-manage, well cut style. Light perming can help as it lifts the hair slightly away from the scalp, making it less easy for the sebum to travel up the hair shaft.

Hair Problems: Split Ends

The only cure for split ends is to have them trimmed off; if left, they may split further up the hair, making it look dull and lifeless.

Split ends are caused when hair is damaged, either by harsh shampoos, too much direct from the sun or a hair dryer, perming or bleaching or very often simply because the tips of hair are very old.

Healthy Hair : In top condition, the scaly outer shell, or cuticle, of each hair lies flat and smooth along the whole length of the shaft.

Treatments :
1. Mix 1 tsp honey with 2 Tbsp olive oil, then beat in 1 egg yolk. Massage on hair in small sections. Wrap head with shower cap for 30 minutes. Rinse and shampoo.
2. Massage hair and scalp with warm avocado or olive oil. Wrap hair securely in a towel. Leave oil on hair about 8 hours or overnight. If left on overnight, put a shower cap over head to avoid staining pillows and bedding. Wash hair, then rinse with a vinegar /water solution.

Hot Oil Treatment :
1. 1/2 cup olive oil
2. 1/2 cup boiling water

Place olive oil and boiling water into large glass bottle or jar with a lid. You may need to wrap a towel around the bottle to avoid burning yourself. Shake very well until oil is emulsified. Massage into hair, taking care not to burn your head. Put a shower cap or plastic bag over your hair and wrap your head in a hot towel that has been soaked in hot water then wrung out. Leave mixture on your hair for 1/2 hour, then shampoo as usual.

Hair Problems: Hair Loss by Disease

Diabetes is a hormone related disease which can cause the thinning of hair or hair loss. Losing your hair could be caused by diabetes, however, there are many more causes. It is important to investigate properly to ensure the most effective treatment is used to battle the hair loss. Diabetes can cause hair loss if not detected at an early stage, and proper medication is used. This site discusses
diabetes related hair loss and what you can do to prevent, minimize and even stop the hair loss.

If you notice your hair getting thinner, and have not been diagnosed as a diabetic, and also have other diabetes related symptoms - then you should visit your doctor as soon as possible. For many people the hair loss is preventable. Diabetes affects the growth process of hair and you will see the effects after some time. Diseases can cause a lot of stress - this also has a big effect on your hair. A treatment change is another reason why your body might respond as it does, especially your hair.

Diabetics are sensitive to skin problems as their blood circulation is not optimal. Slow healing, bruises and small wounds are some of the results of this. Therefore, it takes more time for your body to heal and re grow lost hair. This can cause visible
hair loss as your body has problems keeping up with the re growth process. A healthy person loses between 50 and 100 hairs each day. If you notice a large loss of hair it is very important that you seek medical assistance. Uncontrolled diabetes will cause damage to your body and needs good treatment to recover and stabilize.

Plenty! First, if you have not been diagnosed with diabetes then we suggest having yourself tested. The hair loss is just one of those signs that could indicate diabetes, or hormonal diseases that will require immediate professional attention. You may not diabetes and could look into other causes, such as a poor diet. Food affects our entire body. Taking care of your hair is also very important. No, you don't have to buy a thousand different hair lotions and cremes, but a good shampoo will take care of your hair. Stress relieve is another one of those things that you should look into. Stress + diabetes can result in hair loss and damage to your skin.

We would also like to note that some drugs that are prescribed to diabetics can cause hair loss. This also depends on your personal situation, people respond differently to various medication. Today's medical technologies allow for many different ways
to treat hair loss even in combination with diabetes. There often is a "solution" for your hair problems.

Problems of Hair

Hair Loss
Whether it is a diffuse or all over loss, or more specific localised loss, can be caused by a number of factors from genetics, stress, fungi or any other acquired form. Hair loss can appear suddenly, or it can gradually manifest itself over the years.

Sometimes, it can just take a new hair style, and suddenly you can 'see through' your hair, generally indicating the loss has been progressing for some time. Hair is a very sensitive 'barometer' to imbalances in the body - factors such as poor nutrition, medical or genetic problems, medication and stress can adversely affect their hair and scalp.

Scalp problems

Scalp problems such as Psoriasis, Seborrheic Dermatitis, Pityriasis, and others. If you have a problem with your hair or scalp the specialist to see is a Trichologist in the same way you would see a dermatologist for a skin problem. They can treat hair loss, baldness, scaling of the scalp, itching, hair breakage, dryness and oiliness amongst other things.

Hair Problems: Dry Hair

The first rule for having a beautiful-looking hair that does not need so frequent washing is to try washing it twice or three times a week and not daily. Most of us have hair problems especially because it gets greasy and laden with dandruff almost immediately after it is washed. It is not as hard as it seems, because what we don't know is that the more we wash our hair, the more rapidly it will grow oily.

The oily substance that leads to greasy hair is called sebum and is produced by the sebaceous glands in the hair follicles traced in the scalp. We should not think that frequent wash of our hair will remove the sebum, because this is wrong: biologically, sebum has the role of protecting our hair from getting too dry or dehydrated and it also gives the hair's natural shine. When sebum is removed from the hair by washing, the sebaceous glands will produce an excessive amount of sebum in order to make up for the previous loss. That is how our hair is depleted of natural shine and moisture.

Hair care should be done mainly on natural basis, as the cosmetic products mostly over-load it with chemical moisturizers that lead to a greasy hair. Nevertheless, we should be aware of the type of hair we have and use adequate natural remedies for dry, greasy, frizzy hair etc.

Dry hair is usually the hair that has not a sufficient amount of natural moisturizer and oil. This can be caused by over-exposure to the sun without protecting the hair, by excessive washing - especially with harsh chemical substances, excessive use of styling products and hot styling methods (blow drier, heat iron), excessive dying of the hair etc.

The solution rests in natural moisturizers, such as natural oils, and nutritious remedies. The jojoba oil is much recommended for regaining the shine and brightness of your hair, as the molecular structure of this oil is almost similar to the one of sebum, the natural hair moisturizer. It can be used as an overnight as well as a daily treatment for the hair.

Other types of natural oils that provide moisture for your hair are: olive, ylang-ylang, almond, avocado, rosemary essential oil, wheat germ oil, emu oil, shea oil and herbal oils such as: nettle oil, plantain oil, burdock oil etc. These are very efficient, as they provide a wide range of nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins vital for the hair and scalp. You can also mix one of these oils with honey and then apply it as a mask for the hair.

You can prepare a very efficient natural tonic for the hair by simply mixing 2 egg yolks and beat the paste until it is foamy. Then massage the entire scalp and hair with it and, when done, rinse it off with warm water. The egg is a very nutritious product, as it is a source of 11 essential nutrients, vitamin A and D. Mayonnaise is also beneficial for dry hair.

Applying tomatoes slices, tomato juice or tomato paste to your hair will enhance the natural PH of the hair due to the vitamin C in these vegetables.

Bananas, coffee and chamomile tea will also help your hair shine the natural way.

Besides these natural remedies, be sure to have a balanced diet, rich in fruits and vegetables that supply our organism with all the nutrients it needs and also try herbal teas that do wonders for our health. And do not forget that hair belongs to the body, just like any other organ, therefore what works for the metabolic system will surely work for our hair, too!
